Springfield Armory made these beautiful training rifles from 1933 to 1942 as an improved version of the earlier 1922 and 1922M1 trainers. This example's barrel is dated January of 1942 and is serial numbered 10596. The Springfield Armory only produced 11,171 of these rifles using the best materials and workmanship available at that time. They came fitted with a Lyman #48 receiver sight, a National Match quality action, and were known for their accuracy. The nickel steel bolt is numbered to the receiver denoting that it has been hand fit to that particular action. Money could not buy a better rifle made during this time period and were much sought after then and now. Many collectors and shooters feel that these rifles were the absolute pinnacle of Springfield's training rifle production. This example has the desirable M1922M1 NRA type stock which may have been part of a parts clean up as this is a very late gun or added during an arsenal re-work. The stock does have an arsenal re-work mark on the left side near the bolt cut off. This rifle show honest wear but is perfect mechanical condition and would make a great collectible or rifle for vintage match shooting. These Springfield M2's do not come along often, and no U.S. Military or Springfield 1903 collection is complete without one.
