Description:
With a .40 cal, and a 39 3/4” octagon barrel with a fair-good bore showing oxidation in the grooves and good rifling. The barrel and lock have mostly toned a dark plum-brown patina showing evidence of an old cleaning with some scattered light dings and remnants of old oxidation. The maker marking on the barrel flat is faded leaving only “PHILADA” visible and there are some small rosette accents stamped along the length of the barrel. The lockplate is unmarked and shows some old toolmarks/file marks. The rifle is equipped with a long brass nosecap, dual ramrod thimbles with tailpipe, single spur triggerguard, buttplate with small toeplate, simple decorative sideplate and pendulum patchbox; the brass has taken on a mild ocher patina showing some scattered light handling marks and tarnish. The stock appears to be butternut or something similar and remains in good condition. with light dings . The simple wooden ramrod is pieced together in the middle with a brass collar. The lock is equipped with double set triggers that seem to function well mechanically. When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
