Very good Colt 1849 Pocket 5-shot percussion revolver, .31 caliber, 6" barrel with Hartford address, blued and case hardened finish, one-piece walnut grips, brass trigger guard and back strap, plain trigger, single action, serial number 182017, made in 1860 just before the Civil War. Many of these were carried as back-ups by Union and Condfederate soldiers. Overall grades NRA Antique Very Good, with the blued and case hardened finished drifted to patina. Brass trigger guard and back strap have not been cleaned and are a mild ochre. Original grips are numbered to the gun and show just minor usage marks. All numbers match on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, cylinder, cylinder pin, loading lever and wedge. Action is crisp, locking firmly at both the half- and full-cock positions, properly indexing every time. Cylinder retains just about all of the scene, and it, as well as the patent and serial number, are quite clear. The bore is very good with just light normal black powder fouling. All original except for the trigger guard screw, which is bright blue and looks to be a replacement. Very nice Colt 1849 to add to your collection and sold as a collector's item only. Please have a competent gunsmith check it over if you intend to shoot it.
