Description:
Uncommon extra long Winchester Model 1894 rifle in caliber 32-40 with 28" octagon barrel 2" longer than standard. For this model, extra long barrels were only offered in 38-55 and 32-40, and only up to 1908. Very few extra long 1894s were ordered. This one is standard otherwise, having a full magazine, plain walnut stocks, plain trigger, rifle butt, open sights, blued and case hardened finish. Records on hand at the Cody Museum show serial number 170301 was applied on January 21, 1903, confirms the configuration, showing a warehouse and ship date of March 10, 1903 to order number 179689. The Cody email sheet will be given to the buyer of the rifle. Overall grades very good. Stocks show typical nicks and dings but never sanded or refinished. Barrel and mag are a pleasing patina with some better plum blue in the protected areas. Receiver has silvered out. Traces of case colors remain on the hammer and lever. Retains the original front and rear sights. Action is crisp and tight with a properly working half cock safety. Bore is a 7 of 10 with consistent rifling and light frost, may clean better, should spin a bullet just fine (have it checked by a competent gunsmith before firing). All original except for the added swivel in the butt stock. Good void-filler for your Winchester collection as not many extra long 1894s remain.
