Description:
At about 16 ga.bore with a 39 1/2” part octagon part round barrel with an oxidized bore. The metal surfaces are an overall soft plum brown patina showing perhaps some sparse oxidation staining here and there with some pitting in the flash area near the breech. It has a simple silver bead front sight and the top flat shows a Belgian proof, the lockplate with some very light vine-like engraving. There is a simple brass nosecap, thimbles, tailpipe, very lightly engraved triggerguard and simple buttplate. The European walnut stock rates perhaps very good with overall dings and handling marks showing some later drying cracks here and there and some chips missing at the ramrod channel. It features a left-side cheekpiece with a small carved floral petal motif at its rear, and the toe line. may have been repaired in the past. The wrist was coarsely checkered at a later time and shows much wear but is solid. The lock seems to function mechanically and there is an antique ramrod included. The overall length is about 56” and would look nice above a mantel. When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
