Not only yes, but HECK YES!
That's what we said when Jake brought up the prospect of doing a Monkey Edge FRAG Pattern project A couple conversations back and forth and we basically said: "Jake: go nuts man. Take it down the road to cool-ville!" We know you will agree that mission was accomplished! Jake applied the Monkey Edge FRAG Pattern in a 3D radial manner which not only looks awesome, but gives it tons of grip. The Maverick Monkey logo is perfectly engraved near the pivot. in keeping with the vintage vibe, Jake worked out a new finishing process for the titanium frame that gives a cool matte OD green. The custom, hand ground, blade has been given a nice dark acid wash finish to round out the "been there, done that" feel. Custom built with the quality and precision that Hoback Knives is renowned for, we are honored to have the venerable Kwaiback join the Monkey Edge FRAG Pattern series!
The Blade: Custom, hand ground, Kwaiback profile in CTS-XHP stainless with a deep acid washed finish.
The Frame: Full titanium framelock with exclusive Monkey Edge FRAG Pattern texture on both sides with recessed titanium back spacer. Finished in Jakes new proprietary matte OD green process.
About the Kwaiback: The Hoback Kwaiback is Jake's interpretation of the Japanese kwaiken blade shape has been turning heads in the knife world. Jake took the traditional, elegant, Japanese profile and turned into an overbuilt, precision crafted, hard use folder. The slim overall profile and blade to handle ratio makes carrying this larger folder easy.
-HRD (Hoback Roller Detent)
-Replaceable AEB-L hardened steel lock bar insert
-Low profile titanium clip reversible for right or left side placement
-Custom machined pivot with caged bearing system
-Interior of frame has machined pockets for weight relief
HRD (Hoback Roller Detent): Most folder designs use a ball that is press fit (so it does not actually roll) into the lock bar to act as a detent to keep the blade closed as well as to keep the lock bar from dragging along the blade when opening. The HRD takes this to the next level. There is actually a captured bearing that fulfills the traditional detent roles BUT actually rolls and acts like a ball bearing. Therefore, friction is greatly reduced enabling the knife to have a better action. In addition, it allows for some adjustment as well as easy replacement for wear.
