Description:
M1888 Springfield, 45-70, commonly known at the Ram Rod Bayonet trapdoor.  This is the last of the big bore single shot rifles before the adoption of the Krag.   It was heavily used by national guard and other volunteer troops during the Spanish American War and the subsequent Philippine Insurrection.  Overall the condition is excellent on the NRA antique standards scale.  Close to new on the exterior with a very good bore.  The bore does have some pitting but it is bright overall and I believe it will be an excellent shooter, if that is your intent.  The only tool in the buttstock trap is the combination screwdriver/main spring tool.  I do not believe this rifle has ever been apart as there is dried grease in the nooks and crannies.   The photos tell the story.  This is a very  handsome piece.  Cross posted on several sites.   Looking for $1800 plus actual shipping cost, prefer USPS money order.  Being an antique, from my front door to yours.
