Here we present a C&R Astra Firecat Semi-Automatic Pistol made circa the early 1960s in Guernica, Spain. Astra Unceta y Cía was a Spanish weapons manufacturer founded on July 17, 1908, under the name Esperanza y Unceta by Juan Esperanza and Pedro Unceta. Initially based in Eibar, the center of the Basque arms industry, the company moved in 1913 to Guernica.
This Astra pistol was extensively developed with several versions and calibers, .25 ACP and .22 Short primarily. Prior to manufacturing being ceased in 1967, due to taking into account new customs rules in the United States, a total of 234,105 examples were produced.
This example is a Spanish made hammerless single action semi-auto with a detachable magazine. This little pistol is a very close copy to the Model 1906 Browning Vest Pocket pistol. This model incorporated the Astra “Tri-Guard” triple safety protection, including the standard thumb safety, a grip safety, and magazine safety which permits firing of a chambered round only when the magazine is in the gun.
The overall condition is very good. Excellent action. Both “ASTRA/FIRECAT” cast grips are in good shape with an average amount of handling. Bright bore. Original finish. “ASTRA” stamped magazine. Numbers match. A “circle/S” is marked on the left frame.
