An honest example that came out of here in Montana, this one still shows good receiver blue evenly mixing brown and gray with good blue on the loading gate , fine screw heads and original dust cover intact. The butt stock and forearm show normal handling marks, but no abuse, cracks or chips. Probably stored in a barn as it still has some paint spatter on it(!) that would be easily removed. Tight wood to metal fit. The barrel shows good aged and thinning blue with fine markings. and is fitted with the original buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact and a filed silver blade front sight in the original Winchester base. Fine brass lifter is engraved "38 CAL" and the action is tight. Strong springs with good safety half-cock. Bore is a little dark with strong rifling and any roughness very light and scattered- better than one would expect on a 139 year old 1873! An attractive Montana '73.
