This unusual rifle musket fired two charges, one on top of the other, from the single barrel. They were fired separately using double hammers and a single trigger. that fired the top and then the bottom charge. They were manufactured by J.P. Lindsay of New York. The 41 1/8"" 58 caliber semi-octagon breech to round barrel has an unfired bore with bright, strong rifling. The top of the breech is marked LINDSAY over PATENT""D. OCT. 9. 1860. All the metal is bright with the polish lines around the front and rear sights still being strong. The buttplate tang is marked US and there are subinspector initials on various parts. The stock, with an added finish coat, is excellent with minor storage dents. The left flat two ADK (Andrew D. King) inspection cartouches. The swivels and ramrod are present. The action functions correctly. This was a good idea that didn't work in the field as the using units didn't like them as both charges sometimes fired simultaneously. This rarely seen Lindsay double rifle musket is a must for your Civil War rifle musket collection or for collectors of unusual firearms. SOLD Antique: Yes |
