These rifles were develo[ed for Siam (Thailand) circa 1903 by the Japanese Koishikawa Arsenal. They originally fired the Type 45 8X50R Siamese cartridge. In 1923, they were altered to fire the 8X52R Siamese Type 66 cartridge which uses a spitzer (pointed) bulllet and were redesignated the Type 46/66. They can be easily identified as the rear sight sides were ground down to adjust for the new ballistics. This removed most of the Siamese markings on the sides. The approx. 29.5"" barrel has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. The gun has approx. 92% blue with most loss in the trigger guard and buttplate. The top of the receiver has the Siamese Chakri symbol with Siamese characters below it. The receiver bridge has the serial number in Siamese characters. The serial number 5662 is electropenciled on the left side of the receiver along iwth the Koishkawa Arsenal symbol. The stock is very good with a stable age crack at the right rear of the magazine door. There is a Chakri stamped in the wood between the trigger guard tang and the lower swivel. The cleaning rod is absent. Tthe swivels and action dust cover are present. The action functions correctly. This is a better than average example of the Siamese Type 46/66 Mauser rifle. SOLD |
