Description:
Standard configuration Savage 1907 pistol in .45 ACP made by Savage to compete against the Colt. Production limited to 288 pistols, this one is listed by serial number on page 261 in the book: “U.S” Military Automatic Pistols” by Scott Meadows, reported as issued to Troop I, 3rd Cavalry, Fort Wingate, New Mexico. After the testing, the guns were largely sold and shipped to the Tryon Company with almost all examples refinished and resold commercially. Part of the refinish included removing most of the slide legend, leaving only “ CAL .45”. The only other marking on the gun are the “SAFE” and “FIRE” at the rear of the frame. All parts matched to #105 except the sight bar #169, the right grip #24 (left grip is unnumbered) and the magazine #135.

Rare and highly desirable Savage 1907 US Military Test Trial pistol in .45ACP, reworked by Tryon, original finish magazine #135.
Condition:
VG Tryon rework with original matte blue generally faded. Exposed barrel hood and trigger polished bright. Faded case colors on magazine release. Comparable condition dark oiled grips with blunted checkering as photographed. VG-Exc. original finish magazine. Slightly dull bore with sharp rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. An extremely interesting and historic Savage for less than half of what you would expect to pay for a comparable, original pistol.
