Description:
The Model 59 was designed for the U.S. Navy in the early 1970s as a higher capacity and updated version of the S&W Model 39 a dozen experimental prototypes were made and were issued to Navy SEAL commandos for evaluation in the field, but it was not adopted. Smith & Wesson decided to sell the model 59 on the civilian market and went on to produce the model 59 from 1972 til 1981 9mm Luger
