Rare Whitney Flush Lock Model 1861 Type “Artillery” Rifle-Musket. The overall length is 46”. The 30” round smooth bore. Barrel has a fair bore. The barrel has a brown patina with light freckling. The inspector marks, “G.W.Q.” are at the breech left and “V” over “P” with 6-point star at the top. The action functions correctly. The rear sight is the Whitney unstopped single-leaf with aperture. The flat lock is fitted flush with the stock. It is well-marked with a large eagle and panoply of flags over “Whitneyville” in large letters with “1863” at the tail. This is another of Whitney’s “good and serviceable arms not requiring gauge inspection”. These were sold to state militias. Fewer than 100 flush lock models were made. Don’t miss this one!
