Description:
The Marlin Model 1889 was made from 1889 to 1899, with approximately 55,000 manufactured. The rifles were fitted with a 24 or 28 inch (approx. 2,260 manufactured) round or octagon barrel, straight or pistol gripped stock, side ejection with solid top frame, blue finished with case-hardened hammer, lever, and butt-plate, and chambered in either .25-20 WCF, .32-20 WCF, .38-40 WCF, or .44-40 WCF. This 1892 vintage rifle is as described and is fitted with the rare 28 inch full octagon barrel, pistol gripped stock, color case-hardened frame, and is chambered in .38-40 WCF. What sets this rifle apart is the nicely checkered, beautifully figured stock and forearm and engraved receiver. Manufactured in 1892, this factory engraved lever action has been used, but retains over 90% original blue on the barrel and magazine tube and approximately 50% original color case hardening on the receiver, lever and hammer. The deluxe walnut stock and forearm have minor s and handling marks, but no serious damage, and no discernable cracks. The bore is excellent, and no alterations have been made to the rifle since it left the factory. A letter from Cody, Wyoming signed by Waddy Colvert, states the gun left the Marlin factory on Feb. 4th, 1892, with a 28 inch octagon barrel in .38 caliber, and with a pistol grip stock.
