1886 Winchester Saddle Ring Carbine 45-70 manufactured in 1894. An original Winchester Factory Letter will accompany this SRC in the sale. Some of my colleagues and I believe that the stamping on the right side of the buttstock F.S.P could stand for Folsom State Prison. There are other characteristics on this 1886 that point to the theory on it being a prison gun as well and will be discussed later on in the description. Please note that this is pure speculation and has not been proven up to this point, but I believe a thorough investigation might turn up something positive. Again just my opinion. 22" barrel and full magazine tube. All markings are in good condition. Nice bore and I will rate it 7 maybe an 8 on a scale from 1 to 10. Barrel and tube are a nice / gray brown patina with some blue in protected areas. Receiver is a gray / brown patina with some muted out case colors. Action functions nicely. Both forend and buttstock are in good condition: forend has tiny crack near tip (closest to muzzle end - see pic) and the buttstock has some wood loss on both sides of upper tang (see pics). There is what appears to be a sling swivel hole just outside of lower tang near serial number (see pic). All in all a good used and not abused 1886 Winchester in the rarely seen Saddle Ring Carbine / 45-70 configuration. Antique and can be shipped directly to your doorsteps.
