This 8mm Mauser Model 98k carbine is equipped with an Erma Model EL .22 caliber insert for marksmanship training. It also comes with the Erma wood box and accessories. The 23.6"" 22 caliber insert has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. The gun has approx. 96% blue with loss on the buttplate and a few high points. The top of the chamber is marked S/243 over 1936. S/243 is the code for Mauser-Werke AG, Berlin-Borsigwalde. The left side of the receiver ring has an imperial eagle followed by the serial number, 9205b, and the right side has three imperial eagle proof marks. The left side of the receiver is marked MOD.98. The numbers on the bands, buttplate, floorplate, stock rear signt, barrel, and receiver match. Note that there is no 8mm bolt present. The matching number stock is fine with scattered issue dings and dents. It has three inspection stamps, including an imperial eagle over H, on the right butt and a series of imperial eagle stamps on the underside along with the serial number and b over K. The cleaning rod is present. The Erma .22 caliber insert has matching numbers, 3721, on the floorplate, and bolt assembly. The magazine is non matching. The floorplate is marked ERMA over ERFURT over 1937 followed by an eagle over 280 Waffenamt. The chamber area is marked E.L.24. along with two inspection stamps.The bolt handle and body are also inspected. The bolt body is unit marked 5/J.R.7.14. (5th Jager Regiment, 7th Company, Gun 14?). The first type Erma wood kit is marked  E.L.24 Nr.2165C over K. 98k Nr. 2189 on the inner lid. In the box are a spare Waffenamt inspected Erma magazine (not correct for this gun), the action tightening tool, and an inspected cleaning rod guide. The box is very good overall. The action functions correctly. This ivery nice early Mauser 98k with the early Erma EL .22 insert kit is ready for your German or training rifle collection.
