I knew the importer as a long time friend, industry pro and former Olympic shooter and he told me a shotgun had not gotten his attention like this in a very long time. Described as an all CNC machined -from -billet receiver out of a brand new manufacturing facility and a faithful copy of perazzi/boss design. I was sent one to shoot, dissemble, measure and assess as I wanted for as long as I wanted. Fit & finish was impressive. Locking true Boss, machining spot on with impressive surface finish. Barrels are generally where a maker is going to cut a corner and these measured out beautifully with backbored dimensions and chrome lined with a full complement of extended chokes. Barrels a hair on the light side- a nice “problem” that yielded a 8.2 lb gun that was lively in the hands and balanced on its hinge- so far so good! Inertia Triggers were crisp and barrel selector correctly placed. Off I went to the clays course. You can certainly have a gun that hits all these marks and still not be pleasant to shoot or confident in its breaks or possess some anomaly that leaves you head scratching- it had none. Recoil was linear and very comfortable and I actually enjoyed shooting the gun. I’ve always used doubles trap to really see how a gun performs as there is just no room for error and flaws show quickly- it’s my acid test. I came away impressed. So pleased I became the first dealer in the US to place an order. Those that know me know I only carry guns I like and respect and I add makers very seldom. Now for the fun part- real Turkish walnut. Walnut shotgun stocks come from all over the world and always labeled as “Turkish” (as if one could verify). One look at these however you will know where this walnut comes from because it is a dream. Metal finish on the blued guns is excellent and the nickel equally impressive with proper sheen, not the blasted finish you see so many cut a corner with. So when I’m asked, “is this the same cheap gun sold by academy?” NO, it is most certainly not. With few exceptions competition shotguns are a copy in design. Krieghoff/Rem 3200, Perazzi/Boss/Kemen/Fabbri, all have roots up to their tree limbs and are the source of endless “copy” banter. What is important however is materials, tolerances, fit finish, handling, true right (left) dimensions, Regulation , collimation, recoil characteristic, and service after the sale. This is the story of how the Pro Star came to me and why I represent it. My prediction is first adopters will tell stories later on bragging about the price they paid back when they first arrived. -August SOLD |
