TORONTO POLICE FORCE Antique WEBLEY RIC No. 1 Revolver .442 British
Fine CANADIAN POLICE Service Revolver
Here we present an antique Webley RIC No. 1 Revolver, marked for the Toronot Police Force, made in England circa the late 1870s to early 1880s. “RIC” stands for Royal Irish Constabulary as this was the sidearm adopted by the organization in the late-19th Century. It would become extremely popular and was adopted by law enforcement and even civilians all over the world. It was a double & single action revolver that was relatively compact and came in several different chamberings. It was just the ticket for constables and policeman of the day.
This one is chambered in .442 and is institutionally marked for the Toronto Police Force or “T.P.F.” is engraved on the left side of the frame, under which is a rack or inventory number for the force. The Webley company trademark is located under that—a speeding bullet under which is “W&S” and “WEBLEY’S R.I.C. .442 CF”—with the serial number below. Each of the cylinder flutes is proofed along with the barrel. Lovely blue finish and a lanyard ring for retention round out the package. This comes in a very nice, glass-topped case with a magnetic latch and green felt interior.
The overall condition is very fine. The action is strong. The bore is gleaming bright with sharp rifling. The grip is in great shape. This is a seldom seen piece of Canadian history in gorgeous condition!
