Rare Marlin No. 4½ A-1 mid-range target rifle. The overall length is approximately 48½". The 30" part round/part octagon .38-50 caliber barrel has an excellent bore. The barrel has approximately 98% blue. It has a target front and sporting rear sight. There are engraved scroll designs on both sides of the bright frame including “Ballard A-1" on the right. This fine rifle is equipped with the Schuetzen butt stock and butt plate. The stocks are fine with sharp edges, crisp checkering at the wrist and forend, a nicely detailed check piece, horn forend tip, caped pistol grip, and no cracks or chips. The action functions correctly. These were made circa 1878-1880. Many were customized making original hard to find.
