We are extemely proud to offer this seldom seen top of the Marlin rifle line, the factory engraved deluxe version of the model 1893. When you consider how few Marlin rifles were made, these gems really stand out. Only about 375,000 were made, and that includes models 1881, 1888, 1889, 1891, 1892, 1894,1895, and 1897. In comparison, the Winchester 1894, alone, was produced over 6 million times. Marlin actually beat Winchester to the smokeless powder market by 2 years, offering the "Special Smokless Steel" upon debut of the 1893. Made in the year of our Lord 1897, this one is chambered in the classic 30-30, and is in very good condition for being 125 years old. One of the characteristics of these early guns is the lack of a later added screw on the left side of the receiver, just above the lever pivot. The original blue is drifting and thin at carry points and near the muzzle. The receiver was case colored, with smoky grays and some blue left. The nicely figured select grade checkered walnut is also very good, with some light handling marks. The bore of the 26 inch half octagonal, half round barrel is also good, with plenty of shine and strong rifling. The fine folks at the Cody Museum verified the special oder status of this Marlin. However, unlike Winchester records, fine features such as highly figured wood, checkering, and engraving are seldom listed. Regardless, the features of this gun speak for themselves. The icing on the cake is the wonderfully executed factory engraving. With a pattern right out of the Marlin book, this highly detailed game scene was likely applied by in-house master engraver Conrad Ulrich. These factory engraved rifles have been skyrocketing in value for decades, with many now priced well into the five figure range. I will price this one for much less. Investors, sending this gun off to a big gun sale would likelya big profit. If you have been looking for the right Marlin lever gun to collect, or for investment, but want the added clout of a factory engraved deluxe, then look no further. SOLD Antique: Yes |
