Description:
Springfield Model 1855 percussion rifle. Features a 40" rifled barrel and Maynard-Type percussion cap system. The increased accuracy of the .58 caliber rifled barrel was an improvement over previous smoothbores. The Maynard-Type primer system was deemed unreliable and later abandoned for a standard lock system. Rifle is in good condition overall. Barrel has light pitting and golden brown patina. Stock has dark markings consistent with age and use. US military stamps. No Cartouche on the stock. Manufactured 1859.
