Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “DIAMONDBACK / .38 SPECIAL CTG.”, the right is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. / HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.”. The left side plate has Colt’s horse logo, The crane and crane cut have the same serial number, the cut is also marked “LG”.
Barrel Length: 2 1/2’” with Full Under-lug & Ventilated Rib
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a finely serrated ramp blade that is integral to the ventilated rib; the rib is matte finished for glare reduction. The rear sight is a flat top, square notched leaf in a base that is adjustable for wind-age and elevation pinned to the top strap.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered walnut panels with gold-colored Colt logo medallions. The grips are in excellent condition and have virtually no handling wear . There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is sharp. The grips have NO play to the frame. The grips are rated as fine overall condition .

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. The finish is bright. The cylinder has an almost invisible turn-line. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in Fine condition. There is one small blemish on the upper frame just above the barrel on the left side. (See Photo)
As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder locks up with no play on each chamber with the trigger depressed. The double action trigger is smooth, the single action is crisp. Approx 20 rounds have ever been fired from this pistol.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Original box and Styrofoam cradle. The box is original but does have a tear and shows handling wear. I would classify the box as in \"fair\" condition. The label from the end of the box is detached and approx 90% complete.

The Diamondback is essentially a shorter framed Python both in the cylinder and grip frame, sharing similar aesthetic dynamics and is no less striking in appearance and mechanics than its predecessor. Those familiar with the Python line understand the accuracy these revolvers are capable of, this one should prove to be no different. While most of Colt’s Serpent revolvers are collectible and all appear to be appreciating in value, this could still make for a nice carry revolver today, more than 50 years after it was made. Excellent Colt Diamondback pistol , one owner and just approx. 20 rounds have been shot thru this pistol.
Cultural References John Wayne used a 4\" .38 Diamondback in the 1975 movie Brannigan.
Steve McQueen used a 2.5\" .38 Diamondback in the 1968 movie Bullitt.
The Spy from Team Fortress 2 appears to use the Colt Diamondback as his primary handgun.
