This scarce Swiss rifle started out as a percussion Model 1842 Infanteriegewhr (Infantry rifle). It was subsequently upgraded in 1859 and 1867 with the 1867 alteration being to an 18mm rimfire cartridge. The 1867 Milbank-Amsler alteration consisted of adding a rotating breech block similar to the U.S. trapdoor rifle. The great majority of the 1867 alterations were to the 10.4mm Swiss rimfire cartridge (41 Swiss rimfire) with only a few being 18mm. The overall length of this rifle is approx. 57.5"". The approx. 39.75"" rifle bore has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. It is equipped with a bottom bayonet lug, a blade front sight, and an elevation adjustable rear sight that is graduated at 4, 6, and 7. All the metal is smooth and bright with scattered brown stain. The left side of the barrel next to the rear sight is marked VAUD 650.. This is repeated on the left buttstock. Vaud is a Swiss canton. The serial number, 2051 is on the barrel, rear sight, and breech lock. The left side of the breechblock is marked in an arc WHAL7AEMMER over BASEL. Inspector's marks are on the barrel, breechblock, breechblock lever, lock, and triggerguard. The stock is very good with no cracks or chips. It has the expected issue dents and dings and a few scattered inspection stamps. The swivels are present and the cleaning rod is absent. The action functions correctly.
