Description: Pistol Model An XIII Manufacture Imperiale of St. Etienne 1813 Only a few years after the introduction of the flintlock pistol model An IX in 1802, it was already decided to produce a new model pistol. This was the result of a discussion between the army and navy. The compromises are made to the best of the army pistol An IX and that of the naval pistol Model 1786 and combines them into a new model pistol, the model An XIII. The production started in 1806 and very large numbers were produced in order to meet the needs of the Napoleonic Armies. The An XIII pistol model remained in production until 1818 and more than 300,000 pistols were produced. This model was not only made in the factories in France, but also in various factories in the occupied countries. The pistol model An XIII was the most used handgun of Napoleon's cavalry. Inspector Gouilloud mark of Crown over G in numerous places, model number on top of barrel worn off, missing ramrod. This pistol was produced in the famous French town of St. Etienne, lockplate is marked “Manifacture Imperiale de S. Etienne” which means Saint Etienne Imperial Manufacture Brass furniture and walnut stock. Two stage action, smoothbore, .69 caliber, 7 3/4” tapered round barrel.
