Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked with an "Eagle over N" and the serial numbeer 5054" The left side of the barrel shank is marked with an "Eagle over N" , 96", an "Eagle over N", the "antler" symbol of the ULM proof house, and "961" indicating the proof date as 1961. The right side of the barrel has no markings. On top of the barrel is the traditional "WALTHER Banner ULM / Do." and our very dicreet import marking..

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade set atop a raised base. The rear sights are two flipable "V" notched blades (for 200m & 300m distance) attached to a fixed "V" notched center piece. The German-made 1,5-6x HENSOLDT WETZLAR (now ZEISS) "Diavari" scope with German #1 reticle has the quick release SUHLER CLAW MOUNT system. The glass appears clear and the outside show only a few tiny scratches. It looks like almost new..
Stock Configuration & Condition: The light colored French Walnut stock has a pistol grip with crisp checkering on the pistol grip and forearm, a black plastic pistol grip base, a modified Monte Carlo style cheekpiece, and ventilated rubber recoil pad with a white and black spacer. The wood shows several scrapes, scratchess and compression marks from field wear. The LOP measures 14 1/2" from the face of the front trigger and 13 1/5" from the rear (set) trigger to the back of the recoil pad. The stock has 2 removable sling swivals.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and shiny, the rifling is sharp and deep. There is no visible erosion.
Overall Condition: The rifle retains about 97% of itsl finish. The barrel shows no excessive wear s but the puter-made (soft metal!) trigger guard had been broken during international air shipment - see photo.
The markings are deep. Has double set triggers and fine checkering. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Condition especially when considering its age of 60+ years.
Mechanics: The mechanics function correctly. We have test-fired this rifle.
History: Founded in 1886, the WALTHER company has manufactured firearms and air guns in Germany for more than 135 years. When the WW II Allied Forces weapon manufacturing ban was lifted in 1953, WALTHER began manufacturing in Ulm, West Germany. The company resumed production of the PP, PPK pistols for police and civilian markets, and in 1957 started production of the P38 in order to equip the new West German Army, the Bundeswehr, with sidearms. During that time, WALTHER also produced limited numbers of sniper rifles for German police departments and some large caliber hunting rifles using military surplus 98K actions. This WALTHER bolt action rifle of 1961 is one of the few hunting rifles made by WALTHER at that time.
Final Note: This is the only rifle with a bolt safety AND a trigger safety. When we test fired this rifle in 2013 in Germany, the bullet of the second shot went through the hole of the first one at 100m distance. Talking about sniper accuracy.
