Sharps Borchardt Model 1878 Sporting Rifle Caliber 40. Single Shot, hammerless, falling block rifle. "BORCHARDT PATENT' 'SHARPS RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT, CONN," "U.S.A." on left receiver. Round barrel. Brass plate behind receiver. Pistol grip and Schnaubel forend. Rifle retains 70% of case hardened finish.
