Description:
Serial #41326, .45 Colt, 7 1/2 inch barrel with a fine, bright bore that has traces of freckling within the grooves towards the breech. This is an extremely nice, 1899-made revolver that has 95-97% of the original bright blue finish remaining, with some fading and silvering on the edges and projections. The hammer and trigger likewise have most of the original bright fire blue remaining with some small spots of freckling on the sides of the hammer spur, as well as silvering along the sides of the trigger. The checkered hard rubber grips are in very good shape with some age mottling over time, and light surface wear with some mild flattening of the points on both panels. The mechanism is fully functional both in single and double action, and the lock-up is still tight. The revolver has a braided leather lanyard attached at the swivel, and is housed in a unit marked Canadian belt holster. The brown leather is in fine shape with only minor crazing and flaking, and scattered small surface scuffs throughout. A clear unit stamp is present near the closure stud: “1 / CMR / A / 378" (1st Canadian Mounted Rifles, A Company, issue #378). Also included is a 2020 Colt factory letter that lists this as part of a 50 gun shipment that left the factory on January 8, 1900 destined for Lewis Bros. & Co., Montreal, Quebec for an order placed by a “Captain Curran". This is a truly handsome Boer War Colt 1878 that is in excellent original condition and most likely one of the nicest in existance. Antique
