Description:
SALE Pending, 12/20/22.

Please Note: My cost for a Flambeau Hard Gun Case at the local Dunham's Sporting Goods store is $32.02.  If you want the gun shipped in a hard case, you will need to add that to the total.

$ 6399.00 plus shipping and insurance, extra.

Update: I have had several inquires about the wood in the gun.  Guns International only allows a certain number of pictures.  I have taken 6 more pictures of the wood in the gun, and if you would like to see them, let me know.  My friend came over today and we got some better pictures.

Up for sale is a Winchester Model 52 B Sporter, I will say is 99.9%, which I am describing it as, because it has 3 little marks on it which I have taken individual pictures of and listed at the bottom.  The gun also has the original hang tag accompianying it.  There is a small piece of Scotch Tape on the tag, which I simply will not try to remove.  There are two little blemishes in the metal that I located and pictued, one on the middle of the right side of the front receiver ring, and the other right at the bottom of the buttplate.  Because the gun is all original, I would not even try to touch up these marks--lest it might destroy some of the collectability of the rifle.

Picutres show to the best of my ability any little blemishes in the wood.  Take a good look at all of them.

The Serial Number of the gun is # 76032B.  This is a late 52B Sporter.   After checking Proofhouse, which is a good reference for Winchester Serial Numbers, it is noted that in the beginning of 1953 the Serial Numbers for the Model 52 started with # 76001.  It would be safe to say that this gun, therefore, was built in January of 1953, with the gun probably being built within the first week of the year.

The Factory hang tag is the only additional item that I have with the gun.  When I bought the gun, it accompanied it.

Interesting to note: This Fall Gary Cooper's two Girffin & Howe rifles sold at Rock Island .  His 22 Hornet was a celebrated gun.  The hammer price on that gun alone was $34,500, and the Commission, Shipping, (and possibly) tax would have been in addition to that price.
I have been a fan of Cooper and his gun collecting for many years.  Many pictures of him were included.  One picture showed his gun cabinet in his home--and there was a 52 Sporter in the gun cabinet.

It is about as fine a Sporter as you could find.  It retains the "Red Winchester" finish on the wood, and the rich bluing on the metal work of the gun.  The correct magazine is right in the gun, as it always has been.  The correct sights and swivels are intact as well.

The bore is bright and shiny.

Like I said, it is certainly a fine example.  This gun has better wood than just about any other Sporter I have seen as well.  Of course, as many of you Winchester fans know, Winchester bought acreage in the 1920's and 1930's to harvest Walnut trees for their guns.  Something that I have noticed is that the 75 Sporters will often have nicer wood than the 52 Sporters.  I have determined that Winchester's administration (who were notorious for penny-pinching) would try and use parts and items from one gun to put on other guns as well.  They did this with grip caps, buttplates, sling swivels, etc.  In the case of wood blanks, however, the size and shape of the stock determined a necessary size in the rough cut blank.  Because the 52 Sporters were wider (they included a cheekpiece) than the 75 Sporters (which had no cheekpiece), they could not use all the blanks in stock.  Some blanks, albeit with nice wood, would not have been wide enough to turn down for a 52 Sporter stock.  Hence, I would venture to say that the 75 Sporter, as the next best gun in line, would have been able to use some of those nice blanks.  It has been my observation that this is undoubtedly been the case with the stocking of Winchester Models 52 and 75.

The photos are the best source of information for this gun.
