Original manufacture date is 1900 however, adopted in 1938 as a military trend toward shorter service rifles. The M1896 rifles were cut down by 5.5". Carl Gustafs Stads converted 55,080 m/1896 rifle to the m/1938 short rifle configuration between 1938 - 1940. 6.5x55mm
