This fine 30-06 caliber J.P. Sauer & Son double set trigger sporting rifle was built in the 1920s on a WWI military Mauser Model 98 action. The overall length is approx. 45"". The approx. 25"" octagon to round barrel has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. The barrel has a full length matted top rib. It is fitted with a blade front sight and two leaf rear sight that is graduated for 90 and 175 meters. The ribl is marked J.P. SAUER & SON, SUHL, PRUSSIA and the left flat is marked.30.U.S.G.1906. The left side also has a set of proof marks and FLUID STEEL KRUPP ESSEN is marked in a circle around the chamber. The gun has approx. 95% blue with thinning on the floor plate. The bolt is color case hardened and has matching numbers (to the bolt). The top of the receiver ring is also matted. The receiver has a Lyman receiver sight installed. The stock, with its schnabel tip forend, is excellent with no chips or cracks. It is nicely checkered at the wrist and has a steel grip cap. The swivels are present on the bottom of the barrel and butt. There is a small blank oval eschuetchon on the bottom of the butt and the buttplate appears to be horn (with a few dings). The double set trigger action functions correctly.
