Antique Springfield Model 1888 Trapdoor Rifle, with Sliding Ramrod Bayonet, #314780, .45-70 Gov't. CF cal., 32-5/8'' round barrel, with block-blade front and windage-elevation adjustable Buffington rear sights, marked ''V/P/(eaglehead)/P'' and ''A'' at breech; trapdoor breechblock is marked ''US/Model/1884'' at hinge; flat lockplate has ''(spread-wing eagle)'' and ''U.S./Springfield'' under latch; steel fittings include loop trigger guard with front sling swivel, curved buttplate with hinged door opening to trap in butt for segmented rod (not present) and marked ''US'' at top screw, 2 spring-retained bands (top with stacking swivel), grooved trigger, integral nosecap and bayonet catch; oil-stained walnut fullstock has rectangular ''SWP'' (Master Armorer and Chief Inspector Samuel W. Porter) over ''1891'' cartouche at left wrist, a fancy encircled ''P'' on belly.

Classified by ATF as antique.   Needs no C&R or FFL shipment or transfer.

Condition is very good, the barrel retains 90% age-toned blue, the balance smooth aged gunmetal. Stock is sound with scattered age and use marks, good cartouche, nice grain and color. Good edges and markings, strong and smooth action, brilliant bore with sharp rifling.
