The military was looking for a new design to stop the earlier style hammer from pinching the shooter’s hand when firing. This design was ultimately rejected and it’s not known how many were produced like this. Along with this gun, is a binder that has information on the two proposed hammer designs, and correspondence with Colt and the War Department. There is also copies out of Scott Meadows book, “US Military Automatic Pistols" dealing with the hammer redesign. Gun is in excellent condition with 97% of the original blue. Excellent grips. Very rare Colt 1911 experimental! SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
