Description:
Very nice, original condition, Mexican War era flintlock pistol.  .54 cal 8.5" smoothbore barrel with some pitting on inner edge of muzzle. All metal parts are a nice even gray/brown patina.  Lock plate retains 95% original blue with rear area going slightly brown.  Hammer retains 90+% blue, frizzen about 60% blue/brown patina.  Trigger and barrel tang retain 90% blue.  Screws are all in very good shape with exception or ram rod guide, which shows some abuse.  Stock is fine with some scratches, 2 small cracks, and typical burn damage in area around flash pan.  Lock plate marked U.S., R. Johnson, Middn. Conn.,1843.  Left side of has 2, very sharp cartouch.  Barrel does not have proof marks on top, but they are on the bottom and clearly visible when barrel is removed from stock, see last 3 photos.
