Description:
***   SOLD   ***   Classic, handsome and rare 16 bore Purdey bar-in-wood hammergun with 30” nitro sleeved barrels and rebounding hammers. Highly engraved action body, hammers and forearm iron. Purdey no. 10487 was made circa 1880 and has double triggers, extractors and toplever opening. Comes with a letter and build sheet from Purdeys. Weighs 5lb 14oz. This 16 bore is in very good mechanical condition, tight on face, and a joy to shoot.   ***   The 30” nitro sleeved barrels are chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells. They have Birmingham nitro proofs for 1oz. loads. The bores are shiny and the bluing is in very good condition. The right barrel is bored 0.660 with a constriction of 0.007 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.037. The left barrel is bored 0.661 with a constriction of 0.017 for Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.033. The straight   ***   grip stock and splinter forearm are made of highly figured European walnut that has been professionally refinished. The checkering is crisp. The buttstock has a professionally installed stock extension and the forearm has an Anson pushrod opener. Stock dimensions are 14-3/8” to a checkered butt by 1-5/8” by 2-1/4”. Cast on for the lefthanded shooter but could be bent over to cast-off for the righthand shot. There are several professionally repaired cracks on the buttstock where you would expect them to be on a bar-in-wood - along the bottom and near the locks. However, the repairs are solid and the gun is very shootable.   ***   Early Purdey hammerguns are very rare and much sought after. But a 16 bore is the rarest of them all. Opportunities to own one do not come up very often. Great handling and great looking. You will enjoy owning this classic beauty.  ***   Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. Please note that the photographs are part of the description. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period which begins when the gun is delivered to purchaser’s FFL dealer. Returns at buyer’s expense.  ***   Come and see this great double and other fine firearms at the MacNab and Heritage Guns booths at the Southern Side by Side Championship & Exhibition April 21st – 24th, 2022 at Deep River Sporting Clays in Sanford, NC. ^^^^^ Enter the MacNab / John Dickson & Son Scottish Round Action event at the shoot. Participants must shoot a Scottish-made Round Action in this competition.
