Description:
This is a Colt Target Model Woodsman from 1927, with a 6 1/2" medium weight barrel. This pistol was designed by J. M. Browning, and was initiially refered to as the Colt Automatic Pistol, or (Pre Woodsman) until 1927, when it became known as THE WOODSMAN. This change took place around S/N 54000, which places this particular gun in more then likely the first week of WOODSMAN production.This is a nice example of a first year Woodsman that has been carried quite a bit in the vintage holster that comes with it. The condition is very good, with blue loss on the high edge areas, and around the muzzle. The original factory sights are intact, with all script and S/N being crisp and clear, with no corrosion to the factory finish. This pistol is not deigned for any other ammo other then 22 cal. standard velosity, as it has the thumb print pattern on the back side of the grip, which would later be changed to a rectangular pattern with serrations across it indicating a change to accept high speed ammo. The factory grips are worn here and there, but are not broken, and still have decent checkering. This gun has the original, and correct 2 tone magazine included.The tooled leather holster is quite nice and pliable, and was more then likely purchased with the gun when new.
