Description:
CIVIL WAR PRUSSIAN Antique POTSDAM Model 1809 Percussion CONVERSION Musket

Made Circa 1830 at the Armory at Potsdam

Here we present an antique Percussion Prussian Potsdam Model 1809 Musket, manufactured circa 1830 at the Prussian armory at Potsdam. The Potzdam musket was the standard infantry weapon of the Royal Prussian Army from the 18th century until the military reforms of the 1840s. Four models were produced at Potsdam, including the Model 1723, the Model 1740, the Model 1809, as is this one, and the Model 1831.

The Model 1809 was originally made in the flintlock format, with production after 1831 changing the name to the Model 1809/31 and shifting to the more modern and reliable percussion firing system. This musket would have been used in Prussian conflicts during the 1840s and 50s, including the Egyptian-Ottoman War, the Greater Poland Uprising, the Revolutions of 1848, and the First Schleswig War, before being sold to the United States government in the first years of the American Civil War. Though thoroughly obsolete, both the Union and the Confederacy were desperate for small arms as the South had little capability to make their own and the North had to scramble to ramp up their own production.

The overall condition is good. Patina throughout. The action remains strong. The bore is patinaed and smooth. The stock shows wear and weathering and remains strong. A very neat piece of European musketry that is representative of other weapons of the sort used during the American Civil War!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 41-1/4 inches.

Caliber: .74 percussion

Overall condition as seen in photos.
