Description: General Specs: Remington, Year 1925, .32 REM, 7lb 4oz, LOP 14 1/4" Serial Number: 91985 The Remington Model 14 is a pump-action repeating rifle designed for the Remington Arms company by John Pedersen to compete with the popular Winchester Model 1894 lever action rifle. The Model 14's design incorporated several innovative concepts such as a spiral magazine tube to prevent bullet tips from contacting the primer of the cartridge in front of them and a magazine that moves with the forend when the action is operated. Loading is through an opening in the magazine located between the forend and the receiver. The Model 14 is a takedown rifle that features a captive screw on the left side of the receiver that is withdrawn allowing the trigger group and buttstock to be removed from the bottom of the gun making the gun convenient for travel, storage and cleaning! While serial numbered in 1925, this Peerless Grade rifle has all the hallmarks of a pre-1917 gun, which is often the case when parts are manufactured then selected for final assembly at a later date. No model number other than the C above the serial number, clear type 2 roll marks are present. It is fitted with the early cross-bolt safety used between 1912 and 1919. This example is in its original factory finish, the receiver, base plate and trigger guard feature elegant scroll engraving all beautifully defined. The breech end of the barrel features matching engraving which surrounds Remington's address, patent and trademark rollmarks. The iconic caliber indicator protrudes slightly from the receiver designating .32 REM. The barrel is 22" long, has a mirror bore and externally mounted with a wheel adjustable rear sight disc marked A through H. Finely figured European Walnut with multi-point checkered forearm, pistol grip stock with cheek piece and Remington grip cap contrast with the deep blue of the metal. Finally a metal crescent buttplate with a protected toe extension exemplifies the clever and thoughtful design embedded in this firearm, indeed a Remington Model 14 exemplifies true American rifle design and workmanship from the first half of the 20th Century. This Model 14 was presented to Henry Uilhlein II (of Schlitz beer fame) by the then president of Remington Arms prior to World War Two when Mr. Uilhein was involved with both the Olympic Skeet team and Olympic winter sports. The accompanying letter from the prominent Gunmaker Mr. Charles Yellot affirms the provenance of this gun, Mr. Yellott has been a friend of Mr. Uilhein and his family for many years and his expertise on this Model 14 is firsthand. Remington manufactured just over 125,000 Model 14 and variations in 23 years of production between 1912 and ending in 1934. Of those only one was built and presented by Remington to the owner of Schlitz Beer, this is that gun. This sleek slide action rifle is all present and correct, a wonderful and singular historic piece to add to any collection, simply peerless.
