WORLD WAR II Era Pistol Made Circa 1921-45
Here we present a C&R Walther Model 9 Pistol manufactured circa 1921-45 in Zella Mehlis, Thuringia, a traditional metalworking and weapon-making area in Central Germany. Production estimates are believed to be in the 200,000 range during its 24-year production run. This little semi-automatic became an instant commercial success due to its modern look and sleek appearance.
The Walther Model 9 was a striker fired semi-automatic pistol produced by Carl Walther and chambered in .25 ACP, also known as 6.35mm. The decision to use a striker vs. that of an internal hammer like on the Walther Model 8 was to reduce overall size of the gun but sacrificed reliability. It has a 6 round detachable box magazine. The Model 9 is similar in size and function to the Baby Browning pistol which is only slightly larger. The Browning is also chambered in the .25 ACP cartridge. A Walther Model 9 carried by U.S. Colonel Mickey Marcus is on display at the West Point Museum.
Its predecessor, the Model 8, was made from 1920 to about 1926. The Model 9 was often carried by Nazi staff officers during World War II, and as a backup gun by aviators, tank crewmen, and the SS, many of whom required weapons that could be used in confined spaces. Presentation Model 9’s were sometimes given to very high-ranking Nazi officials.
The overall condition is good. Original finish. Strong action. Bright bore. Sharp markings. The left grip is cracked while the right grip is intact and in good condition.
