The 32.5"" barrel has an excellent bright bore. The gun has a smooth gray-brown patina (vs. the original bright finish). The barrel and receiver are numbered 46363. The breechblock is marked 1870 over eagle over US. The standard Civil War U.S. Springfield lock is dated 1863. The buttplate, which has light roughness, has the U.S. and 17 over 118 (weak because of roughness) at the toe. This is probably the 17th Regiment, gun 118. The 17 is repeated on the right butt. The stock is very good with an addet coat of finish, no cracks or chips, issue wear, and four visible cartouches on the left flat. A cleaning rod, missing the end, is present. The swivels are present. The action functions correctly. This Model 1868 is ready for your use. SOLD Antique: Yes |
