SOLD This Colt is a first year production Post War 38 Super. This pistol was produced in 1947. This pistol's serial number is 56583. This pistol has the very early barrel with the fat barrel configuration. These "Fat" barrels were standard 45 A.C.P. barrel blanks that were bored out to 38 Super. This practice was done from the first 38 Supers in 1947 to early 1954. After that, the barrels were the thin barrels we see today. This Colt also has the left over brown plastic military grips from World War Two production. This practice was commonly seen in the early production post war 1911-A1 civilian pistols. This Colt has the high polish side panels on the slide and frame.The slide top has the sand blasted surface to reduce glare. The frame also has the sand blasted undersides. The sights are the standard sights for this time frame. The magazine is the correct style magazine for this pistol. This pistol has been used but not abused. The bore is in minty condition with sharp lands. The original high polish bluing would rate a strong 96% 0verall condition. The slide is snug in it's rail track. The action works smoothly with no creeping of the trigger pull. This is certainly a collector grade 38 Super with the very early production features. Finding early production post war 38 Supers that have not been tampered with, is a real find for the collector! This is one of the very early production 38 Supers that meet this criteria!
