Description:
This is the one of the highest grade guns that L.C. Smith ever offered for sale. It is a 1927-manufacture L.C. Smith Crown Grade 12 gauge side by side. It features a a spectacular hand-engraved and case-colored receiver with intricate scroll and floral engraving with game scene panels on each of the sideplates that feature a pair of pointers on one side and setters on the other. The top lever features a gold inlaid crown indicating the that it is a genuine Crown Grade gun. This L.C. Smith has the company's patented "Hunter One Trigger" which is selectable by way of a sliding button to the right of the trigger. The safety is tang mounted and the gun has automatic ejectors. The barrels and triggerguard are a factory gloss blue. The barrels are 32" inches long with a ventilated rib and an ivory mid-bead with a 2-piece ivory front bead capped with a brass top. Measured with a Galazan choke tool the barrels measure Full and Extra Full. The small details like the capped front bead on this gun really are amazing. The barrels are stamped on top with "L.C. Smith CROWN Grade" on the right barrel and "Made To Order By The Hunter Arms Co. Inc. Fulton, NY", and on either side of the barrel just ahead of the receiver there is some scroll engraving. The pistol grip style stock set is a gloss-finished deluxe American Walnut with lots of beautiful figure and contrasting grain. The forearm is a beaver-tail style that wraps around the sides of the barrels with very fine hand-cut checkering and has a roller-type release. The buttstock is beautiful and features fine hand-cut checkering that wraps around the wrist fully at top, a gloss black pistol grip cap, a angled banner-style silver initial plate on the keel, a slightly raised comb, and a brown rubber recoil pad, unbranded. The length of pull is 13.5" inches to the end of the pad and spacer which totals 1" inch in length. The drop measures 1 & 5/8ths" inches at the comb and 1.75" inches at the heel. This L.C. Smith Crown Grade is a real American made classic and one of the finest shotguns made. It is just as high quality to today's standards as it was when it left the factory 95 years ago. This Crown Grade comes with a factory letter which is pictured.
