HEIGES of BALTIMORE .22 LR Rolling Block Target Pistol Violin C&R Possible One-of-a-Kind by Luther Heiges of Maryland Here we present a C&R L.D. Heiges Single Shot .22 Rimfire Pistol, manufactured circa 1926 in Baltimore, Maryland. This pistol may well be one of a kind. It appears to have been made by Luther D. Heiges. Luther was born to a veteran Union officer of the American Civil War, Lieutenant George Heiges, circa 1868. Luther graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art circa 1893. He was listed as a machinist and appears to have found his niche in making violins, first employed by others, before setting up his own shop circa 1900. His work is well-regarded still today. As a hobby, he enjoyed shooting, and was a member of at least one shooting club, the US Revolver Association, of which he was president for a time, elected in 1924. He passed away circa 1936. It is a good bet that Luther made this pistol himself, as a machinist and artisan. It is simple and very functional. The octagonal barrel seems to have come from another gun. It features a full grip with very nice, checkered wooden grips. It points naturally, has good sights, and an excellent single action. The hammer only has a full-cock position, and the trigger is very light and crisp. The interiors of the grips are marked with his trademark the grip frame is dated “1926” and marked “HEIGES BALTIMORE”. The overall condition is very good+. Gray patina (we doubt this was ever finished with blue or nickel). Excellent action. Bright, rifled bore. Both grips are in very good shape with sharp checkering and little handling wear. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 10 inches. Caliber: .22 LR Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING.
