Description: General Specs: Winchester, Year 1945, .410 Gauge, 6lb 3oz, Chokes .004 Skeet, LOP 14", DAH 2 1/2", DAC 1 1/2" Serial Number: 50855 The Model 42 is an icon in the ranks of Winchester firearms, made in the days of the highest quality control and hand fitted parts. The Model 42 was a flawlessly produced little pump gun, chambered only for the diminutive .410 shotgun shell. In the 30 years of production that ran from 1933 to 1963, almost 160,000 of these fine guns were produced. Over 95% of production were Standard Grade guns, and there were also Skeet Grades, Trap Grades, Deluxe Grades, and rarely a Pigeon Grade. The fine Model 42 Skeet Grade offered here, serial number 50885 produced sometime around 1945, is a rare FACTORY ORIGINAL, 95% CONDITION GUN WITH HIGHLY FIGURED SPECIAL ORDER DELUXE GRADE WOOD, SOLID RIB, AND SKEET CHOKE. The Skeet Grade gun was distinguished by a distinct checkering pattern on a more figured piece of wood than the Standard Grades. Some Skeet Grade guns were ordered with upgraded wood, and this M42 is one of them. Wonderfully figured on both side of the stock with the original factory finish still intact and strong, clean sharp factory checkering, and unaltered length of pull to the factory buttplate, this is some of the nicest wood you will ever find on a factory Skeet Grade gun. Less than 4% of all Model 42’s produced were Skeet Grades, and even fewer with the solid rib and Skeet chokes. The low production numbers and the attractive wood and checkering is what drives the price of the Model 42 Skeet Grade. The fact that most of the guns so configured have been restored and no longer retain their original finishes or have short stocks makes this gun all the more attractive. This gun has not been restored in any way and retains the full length of pull to the factory buttplate. The only thing that has been changed is the 2 ½” chamber has been lengthened to 3” like most all 2 ½” chambered M42’s, so now can shoot the more popular 3” shell. The barrel retains 97% factory blue, the action retains 95% factory blue with carry wear, and the wood retains most of the factory finish with numerous field and handling marks. (we can restore the wood to new within 12 weeks of purchase for those that want the wood to look new again). This gun comes in a nice canvas and leather case made for the Model 42, a $300 value, as shown in the photos. The Winchester Model 42 has always been a highly sought-after collectible firearm that has a huge following. This is a unique find, and a great investment that will continue to gain value as you enjoy its use. We have priced this gun under market value, so don’t miss out. Thanks for looking!
