These were used by Wells Fargo, Adams and American Express companies as well as the railroads. The "Registered pouch was carried right along with the Wells Fargo strong box and often had more valuables than the box it's self." It has a handle attached to the back. The flap is secured with a strap run through six steel loops on the front. The strap attaches to a loop on the back with a padlock. "The included pad lock is a reproduction" This is a very rugged, old express mailbag with heavy duty rivets up and down both sides. and around the bottom. The handle is attached with copper rivets and also sewn on. It shows reddish brown oiled finish and and has a great look with rich coloring. The leather is in very good condition for the age, and is very flexible. It would look right in place on a frontier stagecoach or on board an early steam train express car. The belt is very solid and attached to its original brass latch at the end. Despite all the heavy loads this pouch has carried, even the bottom of this pouch is still well attached, only missing 3 rivets. The leather is still pliable only two rips in the side seam where the leather was flexed. For it's age this bag is very well preserved and would display very well. It measures about 25 inches tall, 17 1/2 inches wide, and about 6 1/2 inches deep. There are no makers marks that I can find. It was an important piece of express and postal history that you don't find everyday. This would be a wonderful addition to a mining display, express collection or outlaw loot and strong box. I have added a reproduction iron padlock with keys just for fun. Other items show are not included. Payment: Item, can be ordered on line with a credit card or paypal on our sight.
