Description:
*** SALE PENDING TO WAYNE IN TEXAS ***

Consignment item: offers considered with approval of consignor.

Good to very good condition, all original third model Winchester Model 1876 rifle with standard 28" full octagon barrel, full magazine, plain trigger, plain walnut stocks, blued and case hardened finish, German silver blade front sight, correct 1876-marked long ladder rifle rear sight, crescent butt with trap door. The pictured and included Cody email sheet confirms the configuration and shows a ship date of May 9, 1884 to order number 12288.

Stocks are still tight to the metal, no extra holes, never sanded or refinished, with typical nicks and scuffs from years of use. Fore arm has a tight grain check running the full length on the underside but is tight and not separating. Case hardened parts (hammer, lever, fore end cap and butt plate) have turned patina with no original case colors remaining. Likewise, the barrel and mag tube have no bright blue left, retaining 25% original patina mixed with plum. Receiver retains 10% original finish that also has turned patina with the left side striating and mottled. Action is tight and the half cock safety functions as it should. Mag tube is tight with no wobble. Dust cover slides freely without hanging up and has slight side-to-side play. Bore is fair, a 6 of 10, having consistent but light rifling and some frost, thankfully no pits, no rings, no bulges, no craters, should still shoot OK with the right loads. Brass trap door and cartridge lifter remain uncleaned and have turned a dark ochre. Lifter and barrel at breech marked "45-60" for the caliber. 5% original bright fire blue remains on the loading gate. Overall grades NRA Antique Very Good. Only 63,000+ of this model were manufactured and have become collectors items as long as they are honest and unfooled with as this one is.
