Description:
SOLD    This Colt is an early first run of 1917 Production. The Colt's serial number is 139042. This pistol has the correct in line P Spaced H barrel. The bore is in fine condition. The N.R.A. stamp is correctly located just below the serial number. The Director of the Civilian Marksmanship Program allowed military firearms for members of the National Rifle Association to be purchased for training and target shooting. These guns were marked with a N.R.A. stamp to show that this pistol was legally purchased from the government. Colt and Springfield Model 1911 pistols were marked and sold in this manner. When World War One broke out for the Americans in 1917, this practice of selling guns to the N.R.A. was stopped due to war production. It is estimated that less than 100 Colts were marked in this manner! This makes this a quite rare pistol for the collector! This Colt was also featured on the front page of the- U.S Martial Arms Collector And Springfield Research letter Magazine. It is featured in the Number 107 April 2006 Magazine. This Colt is in original as issued condition. The original military blued finish would rate a 86% or better condition. The wear surface is mostly from holster wear. The original grips are in fine condition with no cracks or chips. The diamond point checkering is sharp with little visable wear. The magazine is a correct magazine with the staple on the floor plate for lanyard use. This magazine is in very fine condition. The action works smoothly. The slide is tight with very little play. This rare Colt has not been altered or restored in any way. This Colt would be a prized addition to any serious collection!  Search for hlvfineguns on google for more details.
