"Serial number 161456. Made in 1878. 45-70 caliber with a 28" barrel. This is a nice sharp gun with a mottled dark brown patina. All markings are nice and sharp. Wood is very good as being very nicely refinished. The bore has strong rifling with some pitting. This gun was shipped to J. G. Dow of Bozeman, Montana Territory. J. G. Dow was a cashier at the Helena National Bank and was involved in the bankruptcy of Walter Cooper. These guns shipped to J. G. Dow are considered Walter Cooper guns. These guns sent to Montana and out west are considered “Buffalo Guns"
