Description:
WWI Era P08 Luger Semi-Automatic 9mm Pistol in good condition. This pistol has been nickeled and personalized with the name of "Dr John P Lapatina" engraved in the receiver. Good condition with shiny bore and good riflings. Some wear on front and rear of grip.

During WWII, Dr. Lapatina (see photo) was enlisted in the army air corps, and served aboard C-47 transport aircraft as a navigator/radio operator. He served in numerous campaigns supporting airborne operations including the D-Day invasion at Normandy, and Operation Market Garden. His aircraft was often assigned to tow gliders. This luger was brought home with him as a souvenir and later customized. He would go on to become a Dentist, settling in the Ocean View area of Norfolk, VA. He has published a book about his experiences, entitled "We Were a Band of Brothers", not to be confused with the book by Stephen Ambrose. The numbers appear to match on everything except the magazine. The barrel has good rifling, and the action appears to work properly.

Dr. Lapetina was born and raised in the Ocean View section of Norfolk. He graduated from Granby High School in 1942. Because of the war, he entered the Army Air Force and trained as a C-47 radio operator. Sent to England to prepare for the D-Day invasion, he served with the 92nd squadron of the 439 troop carrier group attached to the 101st airborne division. His squadron was the very first into Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944, towing in two gliders. Dr. Lapetina was also involved in Southern and northern France invasions, a Holland invasion, the Rhine River crossing, and the Battle of the Bulge. His squadron also flew gasoline to General Patton in Germany and transported released prisoners of war. For his service, Dr. Lapetina was awarded wings, the Presidential Unit Award, the Eastern European ribbon, one silver star, one bronze star, the Gold Battle of Normandy medal, a French-awarded diploma, and the Good Conduct medal.

After the war, Dr. Lapetina attended the University of Maryland and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He attended the Medical College of Virginia-Virginia Commonwealth University and graduated in 1956. He practiced dentistry in Ocean View for 33 years until his 1989 retirement.

FFL required due to modification of nickeling.

Zelle, vashiers check, money order or personal check accepted.
