#17373, Mannlicher Schoenauer Model 1952 Rifle in 270 Winchester Made in 1956 with a 23 1/2"" barrel with 1 standing & 1 folding rear sight, Double Set Triggers, Band barrel tiedown, Receiver safety on the right side as well as a factory bolt safety, Unused left side dummy plate for a side mount, Swept back bolt handle found on the Model 1952's, The receiver has never been drilled or tapped for scope mounts including the rear flat above the bolt release, Some of the Model 1952's were drilled and tapped on the rear, All steel rotary spool magazine, Straight comb stock, Factory sling eyes, Shadowline cheekpiece, Black forend tip, 14 3/16" LOP over the original buttplate, 7 lbs. 8 oz., This Austrian classic remains totally original, The original factory blue remains at 97%, The original wood finish remains at 94%, The checkering at 98%, The bolt face retains 100% blue, I am sure it has been shot but it wasn't much. The bore is excellent plus and looks like it did 66 years ago.
Ferdinand Ritter Von Mannlicher designed this great action and Otto Schoenauer designed the rotary drum magazine. It all started life as the Model 1903 in the great 6.5 x 54mm cartridge that is still used today all across this planet. After WW II, all Mannlicher-Schoenauer rifles and carbines were imported into the U.S. by the Stoeger Arms Corporation (This piece is not marked Stoeger). The first M/S's that came to the U.S. after the war was the Model 1950. When the Model 1952 came out many had a bolt handle in the white, this one is factory blued. This unique design is the smoothest of all turn bolt actions. The cost of manufacturing the Mannlicher-Schoenauer action drove the price up and eventually Steyr could no longer afford to produce this great traditional action and then their line was redesigned in 1972 for more economical manufacture. Ernest Hemmingway and W.D.M. Bell both used the Model 1903 Mannlicher-Schoenauer Carbine. Bell used his 1903 Carbine with 160 grain solids on Elephant.
